VLAIO (Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship) provides R&D project grants to companies based in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It funds both industrial research (further from market) and experimental development (closer to market), with subsidy rates of 25–50% for large companies, up to 60% for SMEs, and higher rates for collaborative projects. Maximum grant is €3M per project. The project must clearly exceed the state of the art and have commercial potential. Applications require a detailed technical and financial plan. VLAIO also offers innovation consulting, scale-up support, and connections to Flemish research institutions via its broader innovation ecosystem.
