I-Lab is an annual French innovation competition run since 1999 by Bpifrance and the Ministry of Higher Education & Research. It targets pre-startups and very early-stage startups building on scientific or technological breakthroughs. Two categories: ‘Emergence’ (for projects still in the research phase, grant up to €200K) and ‘Creation-Développement’ (for projects with a founding team and product in development, grant up to €600K). Winners also receive tailored support from Bpifrance and visibility at national innovation events. Applicants must be based in France.
