EIC Step is a European Innovation Council instrument under Horizon Europe that provides blended finance — combining a non-dilutive grant of up to €2.5M with an equity investment of up to €7.5M from the EIC Fund — to deep tech startups and SMEs developing breakthrough innovations with strong market potential. It targets companies that have already demonstrated technical feasibility and are ready to scale. The EIC Fund takes a minority equity stake in exchange for the investment component. Applications are submitted via the EIC platform and evaluated in a two-stage process including a written proposal and panel interview.
